Winding down Friday evening, after a challenging week, I stumbled upon this documentary on BFI (great film organisation & portal). The Buena Vista Social Club documentary not only provided an evening of joyful music but also introduced me to these veteran musical-pioneers & music heroes. Their enthusiasm and love for their craft was obvious.
One scene with Ruben Gonzalez playing the piano for the young girls learning their ballet dances was delightful. The beaming smiles from these 7 -8 year olds as they surround the aging musician, his kind & smiling face reflects an atmosphere of communal love & respect, so generously shared and unhindered by poverty & generational barriers. These musicians bring so much joy to us. Truly inspiring.
he young can also be inspirational. I was not surprised that I was one of the many who found Amanda Gorman’s Slam Poem during Joe Biden’s inauguration moving. She had also earlier shared this poem- relevant now, as it was when it was written during the start of the US Civil War. Good times, bad times … there will always be great people who share & who inspire, young and old.
